The Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA) has seized suspected counterfeit personal care products valued at approximately KSh 1.1 million (US$8,500) during an enforcement operation in Eastleigh, Nairobi.
The operation, announced on August 18, 2026, resulted in the seizure of assorted products bearing the NIVEA, VASELINE and TRESEMMÉ brands. The products are suspected to be counterfeit and have been detained pending further investigation and possible legal action under Kenya’s Anti-Counterfeit Act.
According to the ACA, the operation forms part of its ongoing efforts to disrupt the storage, distribution and sale of counterfeit goods in Nairobi’s major commercial areas.
The Authority raised particular concerns about counterfeit personal care and cosmetic products because they are applied directly to the body. Consumers who unknowingly purchase counterfeit products may have no reliable way to verify their origin, authenticity, quality or compliance with applicable safety standards.
The ACA said it will continue market surveillance and enforcement activities in collaboration with intellectual property rights holders and other stakeholders to protect consumers and legitimate businesses from counterfeit trade.
Traders have been advised to obtain branded products only through legitimate and verifiable supply chains, while consumers have been urged to remain vigilant when purchasing personal care products.
The seized goods remain detained while investigations continue.
