Navitas Semiconductor has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Renesas Electronics, accusing the Japanese chipmaker of infringing four patents covering gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductor technology.
The lawsuit was filed on August 10, 2026, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. The case is Navitas Semiconductor Ireland LLC v. Renesas Electronics Corp., Case No. 2:26-cv-00676.
According to the complaint, Renesas’ GaN semiconductor products, including its SuperGaN power semiconductors, infringe Navitas’ U.S. Patent Nos. 9,929,079; 11,545,838; 11,770,010; and 11,862,996.
GaN semiconductors are increasingly used in high-power applications, including AI data centers, energy infrastructure, computing systems and industrial equipment. Navitas says it has invested heavily in developing GaN and high-voltage silicon carbide technologies and has built a global intellectual property portfolio containing more than 300 issued and pending patents.
The lawsuit comes approximately a month after Renesas filed a separate action accusing Navitas and Allexandre of misappropriating trade secrets relating to GaN technology. Renesas has estimated that the global GaN chip market could grow from about $355 million in 2024 to $3 billion by 2030, driven in part by increasing demand associated with artificial intelligence technologies.
Navitas is seeking an unspecified amount of monetary damages and an injunction preventing Renesas from further infringing the asserted patents.
Renesas has declined to comment on Navitas’ lawsuit. The patent infringement allegations have not yet been determined by the court.
