Universal Electronics Inc. has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Amazon, alleging that several of the company’s products and services use patented remote-control and device-control technologies without authorization.
The complaint was filed on August 6, 2026, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Southern Division, under Case No. 8:26-cv-02117. The defendants named in the suit are Amazon.com, Inc., Amazon Web Services, Inc., and Amazon.com Services LLC.
According to the complaint, Universal Electronics alleges that Amazon infringes five patents covering technologies used to control and interact with smart devices, streaming products, and household electronics.
The accused products and services include Amazon’s Echo smart speakers, Fire TV streaming devices, and applications associated with Alexa and Prime Video.
Universal Electronics, which develops remote-control and connected-device technologies, claims Amazon has incorporated its patented inventions into products and services without authorization.
The company is asking the court to find that Amazon infringed the asserted patents, award monetary damages, and issue an injunction preventing further unauthorized use of the technologies.
