Copyright Infringement in Movies

Former Big Brother Naija housemate and Nollywood actor Pere Egbi has raised concerns after discovering that his movie, The Silent Intruder, is currently streaming on the Tubi platform without his knowledge or approval.

The actor disclosed the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, expressing shock after reportedly finding the film while browsing the streaming platform at home.

“I spent millions on this project, so how exactly does my movie end up on Tubi without my knowledge or consent?” Pere wrote.

About The Silent Intruder

The Silent Intruder is a Nigerian drama thriller that premiered in cinemas on February 9, 2024. The film was directed by Uyoyo Adia and features a cast that includes Pere Egbi, Uche Montana, Venita Akpofure, and Lucy Ameh.

The movie follows Catherine Philips, a woman who seeks therapy to repair her troubled marriage, only to uncover a disturbing obsession that escalates into a dangerous situation.

Pere Egbi plays Zaki Bond, one of the central characters, and also served as Executive Producer on the project.

Distribution Questions Emerge

The film was originally distributed in Nigerian cinemas by FilmOne Entertainment, making the actor’s claims particularly significant. The situation has raised questions about licensing arrangements, distribution rights, and how the film appeared on a global streaming platform without the producer’s awareness.

Industry Reactions

The development has sparked broader conversations within Nollywood about intellectual property protection, distribution transparency, and streaming rights management.

As of now, no official response has been issued by FilmOne Entertainment or Tubi regarding the allegations.
