Copyright Infringement, Book Piracy – Possession and sale of pirated copies of The Accidental Public Servant by Mallam Nasir el-Rufai. The accused was charged before the Federal High Court on a two-count charge of having in possession and selling pirated copies of the book.

I. FACTS

The Accused Person was arraigned by the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) on a two-count charge of having in possession and selling pirated copies of The Accidental Public Servant written by Mallam Nasir el-Rufai. The prosecution followed anti-piracy enforcement operations carried out by the NCC in Lagos after complaints were received from the copyright owner.

II. JUDGEMENT

On May 6, 2013, the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, presided over by Honourable Justice Idris, convicted the Accused Person and sentenced him to one year imprisonment without the option of a fine.
